Acmeism (literary movement)

Acmeism was founded by Nikolai Gumilev and Sergei Gorodetsky in 1912, as a reaction to Symbolism.  The Acmeists argued against the vagueness, mysticism, and imagery of Symbolism.  The movement stressed a heroic look upon nature and life, and included such poets as Akhmatova and Mendelshtam. Acmeism fell apart at the beginning of World War I.  The movement was also labeled Adamism.
